Part of my ongoing Ghosts from the Sea series, this work brings together Parian porcelain, traditional Japanese urushi lacquer and an antique wooden board.
The fish are individually painted with urushi, giving each one a rich, organic surface. By combining porcelain with an existing antique object, I explore ideas of reuse, memory and our changing relationship with the natural world.
The work reflects my continuing concern for the oceans — from marine pollution and destructive fishing practices to the effects of climate change.
